At No.56 we're always discovering beautiful and unique products that truly bring us joy, and we feel fortunate that we’re able to share them with you.
This month our favourite find is a stunningly simple product. These hemp twine balls are highly versatile and can be used in innumerable ways around the home and garden. They're crafted using untreated natural and biodegradable plant fibres, meaning they're also much kinder to our planet than other types of twine.
They’re produced by The Dharma Door, an Australian based company that employs skilled female artisans from remote, rural communities to create fair-trade, hand-dyed and hand-woven products. They use ethically sourced and sustainable materials such as cotton, jute and hemp.
Hemp has been long used by Bengali rope makers and is admired for its strength and durability. The artisans separate the hemp fibres into sections for twisting, plaiting and knotting.
Jute string is also full of character and versatility, and we love the warmth and texture of the naturally woven fibres.
